I wrote a scene featuring mostly Dave today, he’s reflecting on opening up to Christie as much as he has, and is now thinking it might’ve been a mistake, now that he sees her again in person. On the phone, it was easier for him to forget the one thing he kept reinforcing on himself: no girls, focus on your child!
He’s realizing she’s beautiful in a different way than Ruby, but he is also afraid, and he’s starting to construct his walls again against her and his emotions/feelings. The main song lyrics hit Dave, and he’s thinking, there maybe is some truth here.
Unfortunately, Dave is setting himself up for a harder time later on, thinking he’s doing the right thing, when he’s really just creating roadblocks/stumbling blocks, that he’ll (and others) will have to overcome. A counterfeit/falsehood mentality, that will just cause hurt.
