I’m getting down to the wire here! I literally just laid down my pen and paper! I was on a roll tonight.
Jack confessed to Val about his heart problems, and she was upset, not with him, but with the thought of losing him after praying and hoping he’d come back to her after all these years. He held her and comforted her, and she told him, she’d never stop fighting for him, and she remembered how she had always fought for him in the spirit, praying for him, even up to the day she went to see Ted (her lawyer).
A key phrase she used with Jack earlier in the book, he uses with her. He knows he abused his body with drugs, and always thought it would never be him.
I felt like this was a strong connecting scene for them, drawing them even closer to each other, when it could’ve pulled them apart from each other. It just hit me: that’s how a marriage should be. Hard times and problems, should draw you close to each other, not pull you apart. Closer, so you can lean on each other, and have each other to remain built up, grounded, fortress… I can’t think of any other good or better words for this!
The photo I chose for this blog, was so gorgeous, it just called to me and seemed like it was the perfect pick! 🙂
